I saw this guy at the National Haunters Convention. He had a nice knife display. He carries a very large variety of blades, all sizes, all price points and quality levels. I called him to see if he could help me choose a knife after looking on his website, www.bigbobsknives.com, and he said that he would help me figure out what I needed.
I told him how much I wanted to spend, and what I was going to do with the knife. I also gave him examples of what I wanted the knife to look like. He then asked me for my email address and told me that he would send me some pictures and descriptions. I must say, he stayed close to my price expectations, and sent me a bigger variety than I expected.
I searched other sellers for the same knife and found he was not much more than the average on price. I guess with the amount of work he did to help me it was worth it, also, some of the knives that he showed had more than one quality level, and that explains some of the price differences as well. And some of the knives he showed me were not available elsewhere or was out of stock with most of the "big" name dealers.
I finally decided to get the Gerber Guardian Back-Up. I was told to go to the website and order it and it should be at my doorstep in about a week. I asked why it would take so long, he said that it was because he was a smaller company and cannot keep everything in his on hand stock and would have to call the warehouse to have it shipped to him first, He likes to do the quality control personally so there is minimum chance of a wrong item or defective one being shipped to me. I think I can wait the extra time. If it was not right it would take a week or two anyway just to change it out.
I will let you all know when I recieve it and hopefully post a picture of it.
